Abstract

An autoclave, partic. one operating alternately under steam press. and under vacuum, as in sterilisation, incorporates an annular joint surrounding the opening and mounted so as to slide in a housing in a flange integral with the autoclave vessel and in the same plane as the opening. Means are provided for making the bottom of the housing communicate with the atmos. or with a source of press., pref. the boiler which feeds steam to the autoclave vessel, or with a source of vacuum. The dimensions of the joint are such that it projects by its outer face outside the housing, even when it is bearing by its inner face on the bottom of the housing. The invention ensures that the autoclave is fluid-tight under vacuum or under press. without it being necessary to provide mechanical means of tightening the door.
