Abstract
The capacitive discharge system for use in an IC engine ignition system stores energy in a capacitor and an inductor simultaneously. The energy is derived from the motor and is used for magnetic type distributors without a circuit breaker. The efficiency of the system is increased and the faulty ignition characteristics of the SCR is improved. The sparks are of increased amplitude even when the battery is low. Voltage pulses are induced in a storage coil via a rotating element. The discharge capacitor, the silicon controlled rectifier and the ignition coil are in the secondary circuit of a step-up transformer. The timing is controlled via a switch in the primary of the transformer. The switch comprises a transistor driven at its base over a diode by the voltage pulses.
