Abstract

Randomly corrugated paper is covered with a coating of similar thickness of unsatd. polyester resin (I) to protect the substrate and accept sublimal printing if required. Opt. the underside of the corrugation is filled in with dense or cellular material, pref. of PVC, opt. enclosed by a flat sheet of card, film or sheet of e.g., asbestos or aluminium. Specifically (I) is a blend of unsatd. polyester resin and methyl methacrylate, is applied at a loading of 200-1200 g./m2 and has a modulus of elasticity of about 1500 kg./cm.2 The thick coating is more robust than conventional thin dressings of e.g. varnish and the laminate can be rolled about a mandrel of 1 cm. dia. without cracking.
