Abstract

The demountable joint provides for the relative articulation of a round (1) and a rectangular section bar (2) and may be used in supporting measuring instruments etc. The rectangular section (2) pivots about a stud (3), and a threaded wheel (4) applies pressure through a special washer (6) to effectively convert the joint into a rigid assembly. The stud has an enlarged head (3a) traversed by a circular hole (3c) for the round bar (1). The washer comprises a cylindrical cup with a diametrical 'V' notch (6b), an axial cone projection (6c), and hole traversed by the stud. The cone (6c) fits in a matching hole (2a) in the rectangular bar (2), and the wheel is recessed (4a) to house the spring (5).
