Abstract

An electron gun providing a fine beam for use in CRTs is designed to allow simplification of manufacture by use of third and fifth grid electrodes. The gun has an orthodox indirectly heated electron emitting surface (1, 2) and primary grids (10, 20). These are followed within the overall insulating enclosure (4) by three electrodes in the form of approximately 'U' shaped enclosures centered on the beam axis. The final or cap electrode has an orifice diameter less than that of the channel formed by the preceeding electrodes, their length being > 0.37 of the diameter of this channel.
