Abstract

A blood sample is mixed with sodium citrate soln; the mixture is mixed with a mixture of (a) a soln. made up of a boric acid soln. and a sodium citrate solution, (b) a dil. NaCl solution and (c), opt., a dil. or homeopathically prepd. solution of substances to be tested. After completion of the reactions the serum is separated off; and the serum is analysed, pref. for its bilirubin content. The solution of substances to be tested in isotonic saline is pref. diluted 1:1012. The substances to be tested can be synthetic cpds. or may be of animal, vegetable or mineral origin. They may also be antigens of known specificity. New agents for blood investigations comprise components (a), (b) and, optionally (c) above. The new procedure is specific for the haemolysis of erythrocytes. The rest is highly specific, accurate, generally applicable and quantitative. It can be carried out simply and cheaply, and is highly reliable. An example describes the use of the new procedure on samples of venous blood. The serum obtd. is subjected to bilirubin determin.
