Abstract

The 6C polyol cpds. are used as a corrosion inhibitor for aluminium or its alloys. The cpds. are used in the form of a fluid contg. the polyol. The cpds. may be used in cooling and refrigerant liq. circuits contg. Al or in the working of Al such as cutting rolling etc. The Al is susceptible to corrosion partic. at above 70 degrees C, in the presence of neutral, acid, alkaline or saline water. The polyol is pref. straight chain, esp. a pentol or a hexal, specifically D-sorbitol. The liq. form may be an aq. soln., an emulsifiable oil or an emulsion, esp. contg. 0.1-20%, pref. 1-10%.
