Abstract

A heat resistant fabric belt for holding textiles against a hot transfer paper passing around a heated drum is covered with a polymeric coating having a m.pt. 250 degrees C. Pref. the coating is of a silicone or a fluorinated polymer, applied to a loading of 50-2000 g/m2 by dipping, spreading, spraying or transfer. The coating may be applied to the whole width of the belt or just to the border zones on the face to be used against the material being printed. Used esp. for modification of continuous belts fitted to a thermoprinting machine and woven from polyester, polyimide, polyamide or metallic threads and used for printing at atmos. pressure or beneath a vacuum hood with seals bearing against the back of the belt at the entrance and exit of the hood. The coating prevents impregnation and fouling of the belt by surplus ink and consequent variation in the contact pressure due to variable incrustation on the belt. The coating inhibits fraying or creasing and, by reducing fabric porosity and surface roughness, reduces the suction rates required to maintain vacuum hood pressures.
