Abstract

A clam shell bucket (8) is suspended from a frame (10) and is actuated by a hydraulic jack (4). The hydraulic jack (4) is controlled by an electro-magnetic valve (3) which is in turn, controlled by signals from a radio receiver (2). The radio receiver (2) responds to signals from a transmitter operated by the driver of the crane to which the bucket (8) is attached. The radio receiver is powered by a battery (17) which also supplies power for the electro-magnetic valve (3). The hydraulic fluid for the jack (4) is supplied from a pump driven by a petrol engine (5) mounted on the frame (10). Controlling the bucket (8) by radio eliminates the need for trailing cables and also enables the bucket (8) to be controlled from the ground if necessary.
