Abstract
A turbine (1) is supplied with gas heated by a bank of burners (2). A variable speed pump (3) delivers fuel to the burners and a regulator (9) allows a controlled quantity of return to the fuel tank (6). The quantity burnt (Q1) is the difference between that delivered (QE) and that returned (QR). An electronic controller (4) with an input from a tachometer (5) on the turbine varies the speed of the fuel pump. A pressure controller (10) adjusts the return fuel regulator (9) so that the return quantity (QR) varies in the opposite sense to the delivered quantity (QE) as the pump speed changes. A small range of pump speeds thus produces a larger range of fuel input quantity (Qi). This enables a simple pump (3) to be used for a wide control range.
