Abstract

Prodn. of a vitreous or enamelled coating on >=1 supporting surface, comprises cleaning the surface, preheating it to >=250 degrees C, then spraying onto the surface the glass to be applied in the form of particles of average size 40-100 mu with 0% >=150 mu, the particles having a specific surface of 800-3000 cm2/g. The spraying is effected with an appts which can bring about melting the core of the particles of glass during the spraying, working in conditions such that the temp. reached by the glass as it forms the surface coating is at least equal to the temp. for which log eta =2.2. where eta is the viscosity of the glass at the given temp in poises. Used esp. for coating surfaces of concrete, asbestos-cement, plaster, stone, terracotta, marble etc. Also for coating metal (steel) substrates. Smooth adherent, thin coatings may be formed.
