Abstract

The root stock is raised in a greenhouse which is heated if necessary to prevent arrest by the cold. The graft carrier cuttings are portions of the stem of the root stock taken when the stock is growing vigorously. The cutting has a bud and at least one or two healthy and active leaves. Below the point of graft the cuttings are disbudded. A notch, penetrating the woody part of the stem, is made in the cutting opposite and below the bud which has been left. The graft is inserted in this notch at an angle of 15 deg. to 30 deg. to the axis of the stem.
