Abstract

The pipe bending machine used by e.g. plumbers positively clamps the tube (T). An interchangeable segment (1) which suits variations in tube size, is rotated by a hand lever (2). IT is peripherally grooved and is of a semi-circular 'U' shape with a chamfer (19) on one corner. The pivot (13) of the segment is fixed to a screw (4) along which a tube retaining jaw (6) is advanced by a hand nut (5). The jaw (6) accepts interchangeable shoes (10) which match the shape of the tube (T). The segment cantilevers out beneath the chamfer (19) to accommodate a stop (15) with two active faces. One (110) is parallel to the chamfer (19) and the other has a counter groove in the tangential extension of the circular groove. Initially the segment is positioned with the chamfer parallel to the retaining shoe (10), and the tube (T) also parallel between the stop (110) and the chamfer. The segment (1) is then rotated until the tube (T) encounters the shoe (10) and pivots into the counter groove. The jaw (6) is then advanced to fully secure the tube (T) when segment (1) rotation is continued.
