Abstract

The points for suspended overhead monorails in conjunction with a conveyor system, incorporate a chain of inter-articulating rail segments (9, 10, 11) permanently pinned to the main track (6) at the junction (16). The chain is pivoted about this point to align with a straight continuation (7) of the main track (6) or with a curved branch line (8). The arrangement avoids the time wasting sideways sliding associated with conventional points. The chain is displaced by control gear acting on the last segment (11), i.e. that remote from the junction. The segments (9, 10, 11) have the same cross-section as the rails (6, 7, 8) flanking the points and may be curved or straight. The control gear may incorporate a vertical pivot (17) projecting from the last segment (11). The pivot (17) may fix to a slide guided by two parallel rails (4, 5) supported by a frame (2) on posts extending from the static adjacent rails (6, 7, 8).
