Abstract
The voltage and frequency changer is powered from a rotating generator whose output frequency is much higher than that required by the load. Installations of this type may be found in aircraft where a 400 Hz generator has to provide power for a 50 Hz equipment. The generator excitation is controlled with respect to the required load voltage. The generator armature output is applied to a trans former whose ratio is variable by solid state tapping selectors connected to primary winding sections. The secondary winding is centre tapped and connected to the load and a filter arranged to pass only the required frequency. The tap selectors and secondary output regulator are governed by control elements and combine to form the low frequency voltage envelope, whilst the filter removes the generator frequency component.
