Abstract

The integral handle and push-button lock is for use on sliding doors and includes a bolt (36) which displaces axially in a direction perpendicular to the door-opening. Each successive advance of the button (6) effects equal incremental rotation of a bolt-carrier (21), thus, aligning or misaligning carrier ribs (24) with longitudinal grooves in a guidance sleeve. Misalignment ensures that the bolt (36) remains projecting in the active position, and alignment allows the bolt to retract under the action of a coil spring (43). The lock is mounted in a handle-integral sleeve (5) and comprises a push-button cap (6), the carrier (21), and a guide-sleeve (7). A specially contoured liner (9) is incorporated in the mouth of the guide sleeve to form the grooves and shark-toothed notches. The notches either retain carrier ribs (24) or lead them back into grooves. The mating ends of the button and the carrier have symmetrical triangular teeth (20, 27) which are angularly offset when the components are at repose.
