Abstract

L'invention concerne un perfectionnement de l'oxydation catalytique de So2 en SO 3 . Pour obtenir SO3 , on brûle S et l'on envoie un mélange gazeux contenant SO 2 et O2 dans plusieurs étages de catalyse. On ajoute au mélange gazeux, en une ou plusieurs régions en aval du catalyseur du premier étage et en amont du catalyseur de l'étage final de catalyse, de l'oxygène commercial (c'est-à-dire O 2 essentiellement pur, ou un mélange contenant au moins 90 % en volume de O2 ) ou de l'air enrichi en O2 . Entre les étages, le mélange gazeux est refroidi Le SO3 est généralement absorbé par de l'acide sulfurique. Cette addition de O2 permet, dans une installation existante, d'augmenter le rendement de la transformation de SO2 en SO3 ou d'augmenter la capacité de production ou de prolonger la durée d'utilisation possible du catalyseur de premier étage.
