Abstract

A device for automatically controlling the dimensions of an extrudate includes a means for measuring the blank width, a third added coupled to the measuring means and to a blank dimension presetting means. The output of the third adder is fed to an amplifier converter to a fourth adder in addition receiving an input from a compensator unit and feeding an output signal to a non-linearity unit. The non-linearity unit is connected via a switch to a second adder which also receives input from a sensor measuring the speed of the extrudate draw-off motor. The switch alternatively connects a draw-off speed presetter to the second adder. The output of the second adder is fed via an amplifier to the draw-off motor. The speed of the screw driving motor is sensed by a sensor and the resultant signal is fed to the non-linearity unit, to the compensator unit and to a first addler. The first addler also receives input from a screw rpm presetter and directs its output to an amplifier and then to the screw driving motor. In use the rpm of the screw is set by the presetter and the draw-off speed is automatically set to match it by using the switch to connect the non-linearity unit to the second adder.
