Abstract

The clutch designed to give increased life has a dished cover (1) with a support ring (2) mounted inside its rim, for a plate spring (3). The support ring has set of fingers (5) passing through the plate spring, and is secured to the cover by riveting. The plate spring is held in contact with the pressure plate (4) housed inside the dished cover. Each finger has a central locating stem for the plate spring, a spigot for riveting at one end, and a supporting surface at the other end. This surface is hardened by e.g. a chromium surface, or by nitriding. This surface can be inductively hardened, and is harder than the material of the cover plate.
