Abstract
Hydrocracking of petroleum fractions with an end b.pt. of >530 degrees C to produce LPG and gasoline is carried out by contacting the feed and an H2-rich gas first with a catalyst (A) which promotes gas oil (190-370 degrees C) formation and then, without intermediate sepn. or purificn., with a catalyst (B) which promotes gasoline (C5-190 degrees C) and LPG formation. Catalyst A comprises Group VIb and VIII metal oxides supported on amorphous SiO2-Al2O3. Catalyst B comprises a noble metal in association with a REY zeolite (RE= rare earth). Also claimed is a type-B catalyst contg. 7-15 wt.% RE oxide and 0.12-0.30 wt.% PT. The process is highly flexible: the ratio of LPG to gasoline can be varied by varying the process conditions in the 2 stages and/or the proportions of the 2 catalyst. Both catalyss are resistant to poisoning by N cpds. and polycyclics. conversions of 75-100% per pass can be achieved, with LPG yields of =70% (pref. 5-50%) and gasoline yields of 20-80 (pref. 40-70%).
