Abstract

An appts. for monitoring the concn. of fission products in a fluid incorporates an insulated U tube through which the fluid passes, neutron activity detectors, alarm devices, and measuring equipment. The detectors are placed at the U end of the tube in a layer of moderator surrounding the tube and sepd. from it by a layer of material absorbing radiations. The safety device activate an alarm if a predetermined rate of counting by the detector is exceeded. The measuring equipment determines the neutron activity detected. The appts. is better adapted than existing appts. to easy and safe mounting as a by-pass on the coolant circuit of a nuclear reactor, e.g. a pressurised water reactor. In addn. it is less complex and allows easy access to the detector-moderator and measuring assemblies.
