Abstract

The casing is obtd. according to the principal patent and is characterised by coating a braid of glass fibres with a compsn. contg. (i) >=1 mono-unsaturated acrylic monomer; (ii) >=1 polyunsaturated acrylic monomer; (iii) a satd. epoxide resin; (iv) a photoinitiator; and (v) an organic peroxide. To increase the reactivity of the compsn., i.e. its rate of polymerisation for a given irradiation time, a vinyl monomer is incorporated in the compsn. The coated material is then irradiated by UV radiation, in air, to polymerise and crosslink the coating. The vinyl monomer is pref, vinyl pyrrolidone, 2-vinyl-pyridine, 4-vinyl-pyridine or 2-vinyl-5-ethyl-pyridine.
