Abstract

Ancillary glazing is fitted with border channel having an ancillary flange normal to the plane of the glass and which can engage a 'W' section profile fitted to the wall adjacent to the window to be covered. Both the border and the supporting profiles have stepped or undercut forms which can trap an elastomeric profile which acts both as a wedge and a seal for the frame joint. The joint function in compressive shear in situ, but can be stretched longitudinally to facilitate introduction and removal. Specifically the supporting profile is of Al or Al alloy, the border channel is of plastic material e.g. PVC, and the seal is of EPDM (ethylene propylene diene rubber), opt. reinforced with a longitudinal wire. Alt. the two channel profiles are extruded simultaneously from plastic material and then parted along a weak junction. The components do not require close dimensional tolerances and are readily produced and assembled.
