Abstract

A pair of cylindrical towers rests on the bed of an open body of liq. and extends above the surface of the liq. Each tower is open to the liq. at its lower end and the upper ends are interconnected by a conduit including a one-way valve leading from the evaporating tower (I) to the condensing tower (II). Tower (II) has a diaphragm sealing its inner wall at approximately the level of the liq. surface. As a result of wave action in the liq. periodic low press. cycles occur in tower (I) to cause liq. vapour to be formed which is then transferred to tower (II) via the one-way valve. The vapour condenses during high press. cycles in tower (II). Used partic. for producing fresh water from the sea, the appts. uses energy from the waves for the distn.
