Abstract
A large section metallic article having hollow tubular internal portion of any desired profile and of thin section is fabricated from the same metal as the tubes. The article is formed by casting the metal around the tubes or tubing at the same time as a two-phase dispersion of liquid/gas in the form of a turbulent suspension of very fine liquid droplets is injected into the tubes or tubing. The liquid is of a type resistant to coalescence and is atomised inside the tubing by a gas stream directed into the tubing to strike the liquid which is tangentially through a transverse section at the end of the tubing. Process avoids the risk of the tubing becoming fisured or pierced during casting and thus of the metal penetrating the tubing and closing or blocking it. The process avoids the risk of the tubing being heavily deformed.
