Abstract

651,105. Casting composite tubular articles. AVON DIECASTING CO., Ltd., and WALTERS, S. A. Nov. 8, 1948, No. 28904. [Class 83 (i)] In a method of attaching a metal tube 10 to another element, e.g. in a cycle frame, the tube is provided with holes 11 a,nd a plug 12 having a closed end and provided with slits 14 is inserted in the end thereof, and the member 15 to which the tube is to be attached is provided with holes 16 and is connected to a socket 17 which is cast around the plugged end of the tube. Various forms of plug are described. For example, it may be hollow and provided with holes so that the cast metal enters and fills the interior of the plug or it may be substantially solid and have one or more holes extending transversely through it. Alternatively, the plug may be provided with a circumferential flange at each end or have a plurality of recesses on its outer surface. In another modification, one or more projections or indentations are made at or near the end of the tube.
