Abstract

The gate valve for use in the chemical and petroleum industries has a body (1) with a through bore (4, 5). The sliding gate (11) is constructed from two similar plates mounted back to back and pressed against the inner guide surfaces (9) by compression springs (20). Because of the high temperature at which the valve operates the discs (24, 25) are made of hard metal such as Stellite (RTM). To accommodate any distortion due to temperature gradients the discs are mounted loose in recesses in the gate (11) and pressed against the sealing faces (9) by compression springs (26).
