Abstract

Repair or strengthening of reinforced concrete structures is effected by securing additional reinforcing members, i.e. metal rods or plates, alongside the surface of the original structure and then cladding the additional reinforcement in cement or resin which is also bonded to the original surface. The added reinforcement is anchored by pins or bolts set into or passing through the original structure., and included in the effective reinforcement calculations. The interfacial bond is made using an epoxy or polyurethane adhesive complying with CCBA Rule 68, pref. having a shear strength of >200 bar and a modulus of elasticity of >40.000 bar. The added cement may be modified by addition of plasticizers, epoxy or melamine based resins or latices to stabilise their structure and improve tensile cohesion. The added structure may be protected by fire resistant covers or coatings.
