Abstract

The method is for adapting an analogue signal to a digital code for use in a coder functioning by coding amplitude samples of a signal. The coder has a given coding range. In front of the coder is a controlled variable gain amplifier circuit. This circuit can produce a constant continuous signal with controller variable value of phase shift. A range of amplitude variation of a test signal having amplitude characteristics similar to that of the analogue signal is determined. Resulting from the amplitude variations, a control of gain and a control of the shift of the constant signal from the amplifier circuit is determined. The control of gain and shift corresponds respectively to a value of gain and a value of signal phase shift such that the range of variation of the test signal coincides approximately with the code range of the coder. The analogue signal is applied to the amplication circuit controlled by the control thus determined and delivers a signal designed for the coder.
