Abstract

The piston-lock is of a relatively simple construction and has a wide range of key to lock combinations, and all locks can be operated by a master key. The key has a laminar bit which has two longitudinal zones ie delineated by the longitudinal and central major plane. One zone is reserved for indents describing the master key, and the lock mechanisms are operable by either the master key or the respective individual key. The lock has a casing contg. a rotatable cylindrical barrel. The barrel includes the key-way and laminar radially mobile spring-loaded pistons at longitudinal intervals. The pistons have their major faces in radial planes of the barrel, and have square haunches and a segmental head. The key displaces the pistons to align their heads in the barrel periphery whence the barrel can rotate. The haunch of each piston is bisected by the barrel axis, and the appropriate half widths are notched to reciprocate the geometry of the key or the master key respectively.
