Abstract

The present invention relates to the preparation of aldehydes from alpha-olefins, hydrogen and carbon dioxide in the presence of a complex catalyst based on rhodium and triarylphosphine. The process of the invention is carried out under determined conditions of temperature, partial pressure of hydrogen, carbon monoxide and olefin, using at least 100 moles of free triarylphosphine per mole of active rhodium and the The rate of loss of catalyst activity is minimized by controlling and coordinating carbon monoxide partial pressure, temperature, and free triarylphosphine / active rhodium molar ratio to have a minimum stability factor. The process is useful in particular for preparing butyraldehydes from propylene.
