Abstract

The grass cutter has a stem (4) which encloses a drive shaft (10). A reel (6) has a cutting filament (2) wound on it and is able to slide on a member (9) relative to a base (7) which has a side wall enclosing the reel. The reel is biassed against the base by a spring (8). The side wall has slots (11) through one of which the filament (2) extends. The filament is of larger diameter than the clearance (H) between reel (6) and the side wall so the filament cannot leave the slot.
