Abstract
The unit generates a high shock pressure in a liquid and is used to break up concrete and similar solid constructions. It comprises a cylinder (1) containing a piston (4) which has a minor diameter (20) at the front. An extension (25) in front of this has its forward end enlarged to a head (26). When the operating chamber (11) is not filled with compressed air, this head forms a valve which closes a necked portion (23) in the high pressure section (5,6). As compressed air pushes the piston forwards, this head moves past the necked section, opening the valve and permitting rapid acceleration of the piston.
