Abstract

The door safety chain has a stop to prevent the door opening beyond a predetermined angle. It comprises a metal retained screwed onto the door jamb and holding one end of the chain (7). The other end of this chain is fitted (12) to a loose tongue (10) which is received (4, 5) on the retainer when not used. Its free end has two slots (13, 14) and a longitudinal slit (11) for the chain. When required to hold the door, the pair of slots are threaded over cylindrical stops (19, 20) forming part of a locking piece (15) screwed to any door panel. It cannot be removed with the chain in tension.
