Abstract

A composite material comprises styrene polymer layer(s) bonded to metal layer(s) by an adhesive consisting of a block copolymer A-B-A, where block B comprises polydiene units of mol. wt. 10,000-100,000 and blocks A are polyvinyl-aromatic units of mol. wt. 5000-50,000. Block B is modified with a 3-6C ethylenically unsatd. carboxylic acid (anhydride). The block copolymer may be used in combination with any compatible polymer. Used for structural applications involving high stresses. The composite shows higher mechanical strength (40-80 kg/cm2) than similar materials involving conventional adhesives.
