Abstract

Cpds. of formula I (where A is of is not >10C, alkylene possibly interrupted by O; Z is Hal, 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy, or NO2; a and b are 0 or 1) are used as diazo components. Pref. A is unbranched alkylene of is not >4C, possibly interrupted by O; Z is Cl, Me, OMe, or NO2; they are pref. symmetrical. (I) may also be prepd. by nitration of cpds. lacking the NO2 gps. Cpds. may be bis-diazotised by known methods and the prods. coupled with usual coupling agents to give diazo dyes or, with acetoacetylarylamines and 1-aryl-5-pyrazolones, to give orange to yellow pigments of high tinctorial power and purity of colours. Stabilised diazo, cpds. can be used instead of free tetrazonium salts, to yield tetrazoamine cpds.
