Abstract

Vehicle wheel is fitted with pneumatic tyre whic has, inside its cavity, an annular flange (rib) which comes into operation in an emergency i.e. when the tyre is accidentally deflated or otherwise damaged. The tyre is lined, below its running tread, with a rubber(y) layer which bears upon the flange. The layer is tough and hard, its Shore-A hardness being 65-85. It consists of a rubber compsn. whose polymer phase contains more than 50% synthetic rubber, polybutadiene and/or SBR. The styrene portion is above 10% Shore-A hardness may be 75-85, pref. above 80. The lining has high abrasion resistance and will not "rub off" on inevitable frictional contact with the flange. It therefore ensures safe driving even on winding roads with sidewards-sloping crown.
