Abstract

A stellite welding rod is formed by continuous casting. The rod is suitable for metallising machine parts which are exposed to high temperatures and/or high wear and/or extreme corrosion such as exhaust valves for internal combustion engines. The molten stellite, formed in a melting furnace, is poured into an ingot mould whose outlet is cooled and the solidified casting is withdrawn or transported from the mould at a discontinuous speed. The stellite rod is mfd. quickly and at low cost without the need for machining after fabrication. The rod can be mfd. with precision and with little or no inclusions in contrast to the conventional sand mould casting.
