Abstract
Capping for a subterranean reservoir for liqufied gas incorporates a supporting surface on the surrounding rock, passages for pipes and sealing equipment. The supporting surface is in the form of a cone, open towards the top, with a peak angle pref. 90 degrees and the sealing equipment is above, and independent, of the supporting surface. The capping gives adequate closing even if the ground becomes deformed. It can support the weight of the pipes and the filling of the well giving access to the cavity. Local fissures which may be formed in the ground near the supporting surface do not alter the sealing surfaces. The load is distributed over a large surface, so that it is possible to fill. up to the cap in the roof of the cavity, reducing the deformation of the isotherms of the ground after cooling.
