Abstract

Rubber seals for a plastics pipes joint are pre-bonded to one of the pipe components by locating the seal as an insert in the mould used to produce one pipe component. Used esp. for anchoring ethylene-propylene-diene rubber seals which are sulphur cured to pipe socket or spigot ends mouled from polyolefin material. Bonding between pipe and rubber inhibits displacement of the seal during joint assembly, allows a seal of minimal dimensions to be used. The seals are also for mfr. of pipework components surrounded by an annular rubber sleeve.
