Abstract

Ladle for the induction treatment or heating of metals comprises a refractory lining in a metal casing with a base fitted with a flange; round the top of the ladle is a ring with a flange. Between flanges is a circular row of vertical, tubular tie rods located in the heating zone and bolted to flanges (a, b1). A coolant, e.g. compressed air is pref. circulated through the tubular rods. The ring pref. has an annular cavity located above the flange; and air travelling up the tubular rods enters the cavity which thus forms a collector manifold. The ladle is pref. inserted in a vessel so a controlled atmos. may be used above the molten metal in the ladle. Used for heating molten metal, the ladle can be placed in a vessel for treating the metal in a controlled atmos. or vacuum.
