Abstract
Plugs for draining or filling lubricant reservoirs comprise a hollow threaded coupling incorporating a coaxial mushroom head valve located on a bevelled seat by a spring loaded rod. Thrust on the rod from a cross member on a suitable hose coupling overcomes the valve spring to allow draining or filling. A variation comprises a banjo coupling allowing full bore flow through a hollow stud coupling and lateral draining/filling via a lateral spring loaded valve in the neck of the banjo coupling. The valve incorporates a heat-and oil-resistant 'O' seal of e.g. fluorinated rubber. The valve and plug body are pref. sized to fit conventional sump plug outlets in car engine sumps, gearboxes, rear axles, etc., may be moulded of material oil-resistant up to 200 degrees C e.g. polyimide or glass-filled polyamide. Facilitates draining and filling without use of elevating ramps or pits.
