Abstract

A polymeric sealant (I) is in the form of a band having a shape, length and width determined by the space in which it is to be used and a thickness of 0.089-0.178 cm. The band is large enough to fit the space easily and has load carrying inserts of a material sufficiently hard to withstand pressure when in use. The inserts are embedded in >=1 surface of the band and have a size in cm. such that the inserts comprise 30-75% of the band thickness. (I) may be permanently deformed by pressure when used between elements which are fixed by bolts, screws or similar devices. (I) is not eroded by the pressure of the elements due to the inserts. The inserts improve the length of use and strength. Most of (I) remains in the space of the elements to be bonded when torque is applied to screws or bolts.
