Abstract

The invention relates to a chromium plating process. It is a process for chroming a surface formed from a composition having a volumetric resistivity of less than 1000 ohm-cm and comprising a carbon black, elemental sulfur or a sulfur compound and an organic polymer which can to bond chemically to elemental sulfur or to at least part of the sulfur of the sulfur compound, a process characterized by the fact that an electrolytic coating of a metal from group VIII of the Periodic Classification or from the surface to be chromed is applied to a corresponding alloy, that this coating is covered with a metallic barrier layer practically impermeable to hydrogen at temperatures not exceeding 100 degrees C and that the coating of the surface is completed by an adherent electrolytic deposition of chromium. This process allows improved chrome plating of poorly conductive parts.
