Abstract

An oil filter with an annular filter cartridge mounted in a shell and in which the oil enters the shell at the outside of the cartridge, penetrates the filter cartridge and flows out, filtered, from the central part of the filter. This central part is joined to the oil return pipe. The filter cartridge is mounted between partitions at its two ends which have openings in their central region. The opening of the top partition receives a linking piece which joins to the return pipe. The opening of the lower partition has a valve which is opened towards the inside of the cartridge if a pressure in excess of a predetermined value builds up. The filter can be used in motor vehicles, machine tools etc.
