Abstract
The invention relates to a method and a device for performing the inversion of an image. A liquid developer 30 is introduced into a chamber 22 containing a photoconductive surface 16 bearing a latent image of an electrophotographic film 10, and a parallel and spaced metal plate 20 defining the two boundaries of the chamber. Strong DC bias 26 is applied through chamber 22, of sufficient magnitude and polarity to raise the background areas of the latent image to a high charge potential and reduce the remaining highly charged areas of the latent image. to zero. The polarity of the intermediate charged zones is reversed but the relative magnitude of their charge is maintained. The developer 30 used has a polarity opposite to that of the polarization. When the revealing is complete, the polarity is reversed to drive the particles floating in the developer towards the plate. The resulting image is the inverse of the "original" latent image. The invention applies in particular to electrophotography.
