Abstract

Refractory lining materials for molten metal containers are moulded by filtration in which 1-20 wt.% mechanically defibrillated wood fibres 2-6 mm long and a few mu dia., an incorporated into the mixt. of materials to be put into aq. suspension. The fibres are first impregnated with a water repellent, fire resistant material. The fibres are granulated in a granulator to form granules a few mm. dia. Used in casting ladles, tundishes, continuous casting distributors ingot moulds etc. The green strength of the moulded lining artefacts is increased since the fibres binder segregation of the components of the slurry during filtration to remove the moisture.
