Abstract

Control head for continuous ultrasonic monitoring of a rolled strip by a pulse-echo method with Lamb waves comprises two adjacent water-filled chambers for transmitter and receiver each consisting of two parallel plates connected by a housing element which covers the open side of the chambers except for a coupling aperture. An air gap between the adjacent plates is bridged on the side of the rolled strip by a crossbar. The coupling apertures are covered with plastic panels which cause attenuation of ultrasound 4 dB and speed of propagation of sound 2400 m/sec. The plastic panels are acoustically insulated by rubberised fabric from the crossbar, the parallel plates and the housing element.
