Abstract

A granulator comprises an outer housing having a cylindrical wall and a base, and a lid having an annular wall which extends into the housing to define an inner chamber and an outer annular chamber communicating with one another via a gap below the wall. Located within the inner chamber are rotatable radial blades which carry a ring partially blocking the gap. In use material is fed into the inner chamber and is mixed and granulated in it. Particles of certain maximum size pass through the gap or into the outer chamber from where they are withdrawn. A continuous output is obtd. even though the feed may be in batches. The appts. is useful in compounding thermoplastics material.
