Abstract

The hinged flexible joint for automobile exhaust pipes uses join-seats with a curved surface (4) bearing on a plane surface (8). A short conical pipe length provides the transition to the enlarged socket length (10). The spigot head (4) has the pipe wall reverse-curved through about 120 deg., and then terminated in a gentle curve. This presents a convex surface (4) to the plane inclined face (8) of the spigot (10) transition. The connection may be secured by a coil spring (14) inside the socket.
